“A Town with memories of the past, problems of the present, hopes for the future… In a nutshell this is COWGILL.”
The name of Cowgill, of Danish origin, has been traced beyond the 10th century. Members of the Cowgill family still live in the area. The town was named for Judge James Cowgill, once of Hamilton, who later became the Mayor of Kansas City.
Cowgill is a 4th class city (pop. 247). They have three Churches, a Lions Club, an American Legion and Auxiliary, the Cowgill Community Association, a Public School K-8, a PTA and Girl Scout Troops. Residents just passed a sewer bond and are looking into annexation. They are part of the “BIG HEART” of Caldwell County and the welcome mat is always out.
